Important Women Build Update

The fundraising deadline for Women Build 2010 is now closed.

Do you have a special skill that you would like to share with the women on our Women Build site? Do you know someone who does? Become a “vendor”

We are the first ever Habitat for Humanity Wellington County team spearheaded by local women. We are dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty. We envision a world in which everybody has a safe and decent place to live. Through Women Build one local family will have a dream come true. Women Build also promotes women as leaders and provides an opportunity for women to learn new trades or skills, under the direction of both men and women skilled tradespersons.  It encourages women to get involved in what is considered an otherwise male-dominated profession.Women Build is about women who build or who have always wanted to build.  It’s about spirit, empowerment, solidarity, fun, learning and a whole lot of pride in working with a family to build a place they can call home.

Because as our slogan says: we’d rather build it than clean it!

Come help us make a family’s dream of home ownership a reality at 133-135 Bagot Street this July to October 2010.

In order to participate in a day of Women Build, supporters will raise a MINIMUM $250 on behalf of Habitat for Humanity Wellington County. In return, participants will receive: a t-shirt, lunch and refreshments, and an empowering and self-affirming experience, all while spending one day building a safe home for a deserving family. We encourage all of our participants to contact the office at volunteer@habitatwellington.on.ca with questions or for assistance.

To facilitate the activities of Women Build (including building supplies and expert skilled tradespeople), several special events are held throughout the year. Past events such as Mardi Gras and Fusion Hair Studio Cut-A-Thon help to offset the expected $180,000 in costs associated with Women Build. Ceremonial events will also take place to commemorate the breaking of ground, and the completion of the house. Details can be found on the event calendar.

In addition to their fundraising goal, all participants are required to complete a health and safety orientation provided by Habitat for Humanity prior to arriving at the build site. These workshops are free of charge and help participants to understand risks that are present on the build site.
