Public Relations Committee

Mandate:

The Public Relations Committee is responsible for sharing Habitat’s mission and raising the profile of Habitat for Humanity in Wellington County. Sharing the mission includes educating and informing the public of Habitat vision, values operating principles, and building program.

Scope:

Assess current public relation facilities/products and update, revise or eliminate as needed
Provide recommendations and plans to raise awareness and obtain support for the building program, fundraising and other special events using all media including but is not limited to, newspapers, television, radio, magazines, newsletters, websites, public presentations (including display boards, PowerPoint and other multimedia materials).
Committee Activities:

Develop a public relations annual work plan and submit an annual budget for approval to the Board
Work closely with other committees to provide materials such as brochures, fact sheets, and other public education material.
Schedule and provide media coverage for Habitat events and activities
Report monthly to the board of directors or as requested. Reports are to be forwarded to the executive director the first week following the end of the month in time to be distributed to Board members.
Plan and execute public relations events
Prepare minutes of each meeting and forward copies to Affiliate office for filing.

Members:

Members recruited for the Committee will have skills, experience and interest in at least one of the following areas.

• public relations and public awareness/education activities

• working with the media (radio, TV, news, etc.)

letter writing and the creation of PR materials such as fact sheets, press releases, brochures, etc.
graphic design and graphic design software
• special event planning

In addition, members of the committee are expected to:

be enthusiastic, creative, committed, and advocacy-oriented
• have a good understanding of the Habitat vision, mission, values, operating principles and building program

be able to commit for one year
• come prepared and actively participate in meetings

• be willing to participate in the activities planned by the PR committee

• be able to interact with all kinds of people from all walks of life
